Red Palace

It was the wedding anniversary of Kong and Gwammy, and we decided to have a fast dinner at Red Palace along Malakas St. in Quezon City, which is right behind the Heart Center of the Philippines. Bettina, who isn't a fan of Chinese food, informed us in advance that she couldn't make it, and it was precisely because of her absence we chose to go Chinese.  We weren't disappointed!

We started off with assorted cold cuts, fish lip soup and crab roe soup.  In order to try a wider variety of viands, I decided to go for medium sized orders.  Mix and match different combinations!

The kids just loved the basics--fried rice and fried chicken!  Of course we had steamed Lapu-Lapu for Kong and Gwammy, and they also enjoyed the crispy shrimps and the Cantonese style beef tenderloin, which came sizzling on a iron plate.

The pancit canton came with a lot of sauce, and was quite tasty.  I know that Pata Tim has been the constant culprit for high blood pressure, but since it was a night for celebration, what the heck...

More favorites--we had minced pork (for filling with lettuce), crispy fried squid (slightly spicy) and my super favorite polonchay in garlic!  The uber favorite of Gwammy, crab sotanghon, came last as the piece de resistance.

We last ate at this restaurant some 6 years ago, and it seems that the quality is still okay. The fish were kept in tanks, and the waiter showed us the newly caught Lapu-Lapu before it was steamed, so we knew it was really fresh.  Not bad at all, considering that we spent something like P650 per head for the feast that we had.  Reasonably priced Chinese food, considering the quality of the cooking and the dining atmosphere.
