Star Ferry

With all the walking, our first day in Hong Kong was quite a tiring day, especially for Vicky and Monique.  You have to hand it to these two, as they never gave up on the foot race even though they both only had 2 hours sleep the night before.  We started off by departing from the Ocean Terminal via Star Ferry to Central, as we wanted to visit the Lan Kwai Fong and Midlands areas (shopping and lots of eating places).  Unfortunately, I miscalculated the travelling distance on foot!  Boy, some town planner moved the Central Pier so far away from its original location such that the long walk to Central gave our flat feet the jitters!  While the harbor crossing these days is usually done via subway train and tunnel, the ferry service is still active, most probably as a tourist attraction. Compared to the old days (early seventies throughout the late nineties), the pedestrian traffic was very minimal when we boarded.  I got shocked at the HKD 2.80 ticket price--I remember then time when the upper deck was HKD 0.20 and the lower deck was half-price! While I don't usually take the ferry service during business trips, I make it a point to ride the ferry every vacation break.  Cling Clang, hurry up, the gangplank is being raised!  On our next trip, Vicky and Monique will probably take the MTR.
