Nonito Donaire, Jr.

In the aftermath of the destruction brought about by typhoon Yolanda (internationally code-named Haiyan), the only bit of good news on the television was the victory of The Filipino Flash over Armenian Vic Darchinyan in what was, well, an uneventful fight.  If I understand it correctly, Donaire won over Darchinyan some six years ago, and the rematch was supposed to reignite the career of Darchinyan.  Donaire had kept a 12 year winning streak only recently broken by his loss early this year to Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba.  In his humble post-fight speech, Donaire dedicated the victory to his people and sympathized with the typhoon victims.  Since Manny Pacquiao has started to slow down with back-to-back losses, it'll be up to Donaire to give proper boost to Philippine boxing.  He's just 31 years old and will probably have 3-4 years of good fights ahead of him.
