Umu (Refurbished)
I knew that Anita had one of those credit cards that tied-up with Umu, the Japanese restaurant at the Dusit Hotel in Makati. Given that there was a promotional offer for cardholders, I made it a point to ask her family to join us for dinner. I was excited to check out the new interiors of the place, since the architectural consultant of the hotel was a good friend of ours. We were delighted with the new decor, the color schemes were brighter and had pleasing prints.
Anita, Tony and I were in agreement that the renovations revived the image of the restaurant. Monique and Vicky ordered our usual fare--uni sashimi, salmon sushi, oysters, soft shell crab tempura and teriyaki eel. I forget what the kids had, they were in and out in a jiffy, and chose to roam around the garden for the remainder of the night.
The restaurant remains one of my Top 5 Japanese choices in Metro Manila, and it's pretty refreshing to know that the management has constantly upgraded its facilities. If I recall right, when the hotel used to be run by the Nikko group, they had the Gojinka and thereafter the Benkay as their Japanese restaurant brands. I am happy that the Umu of the Dusit group continues the almost 50 year heritage of good Japanese cuisine the hotel is famous for. More power to those guys!
