Bugatti Type 55

I've always been fascinated by automobiles that came out prior to World War II.  There is something in the design that evokes visual elegance and a certain carefree driving spirit.  It's just like the car is telling me to "live the life on the road!"  During this extended quarantine, I came upon this report about a Bugatti Type 55 that is expected to fetch up to $9.5 million in auction, and I can't help but exude a longing sigh of pure envy!

The quarantine situation has me logging more internet time than normal.  Because summer time is upon us, I would have wanted to spend more time at the beach, but given the situation, I am content to live the vicarious life of an on-line beach-bum.  I found my dream boat, the Seabreacher, which will allow me to surf, dive, roll and fly in style!  It's pretty expensive at around US$120,000 excluding import duties, but we can dream, can't we?

It costs something like US$3 million, so it's definitely not a pushover even in the world of super fast sports cars.  I'd jump at the opportunity to drive one of these beauties; even at half the top speed of 350 kph, I'd probably be grinning from ear to ear already.  I understand there are only 77 units in the world, and given that one or two have already been declared as total wrecks, the scarcity has become the driver of resale prices.  James Bond surely knows how to pick a car!

My desire for sports cars started with the De Tomaso Pantera, which was a gift from my dad in the early seventies.  Okay, okay... let me clarify that--he did gift me with one, a blue and white Matchbox toy of the vehicle... That still qualifies, right? ;-)

FX Airguns

I found this Swedish air gun manufacturer on the web, FX Airguns, and it seems that their products are pretty neat!  I especially like the FX Boss, which has a 40 shot capacity on a tankful, and is available in .177, .22 and .25 size pellets.  The Olympic fever has just reminded me of my childhood love for target shooting, and I really should get to practice my skills again.  I might not have been that consistent on the match range, but I wasn't bad in my younger days.  I remember that we set-up a small trick range in the Torres compound and I could hit a lit cigarette in the darkness with a rifle from 15 yards in around 1.5 seconds!  At that time, our CO2 guns were locally made (the Precision by Centrepoint) because we didn't have the budget for the good stuff (i. e. Feinwerkbau, Walther, Benelli & Anschutz).

Watercar

It's both a car and a boat.  Interchangeable. It's not science fiction.  It's Watercar.  What a fun way to enjoy the best of both worlds!

Aston Martin has been a long-time partner in the James Bond franchise.  This time around the DB10 doesn't fail to excite!  Monique and I watched SPECTRE at the SM Megamall, and I couldn't help but gawk at the sheer beauty and elegance of the vehicle.  When can I have one? 

Segway

I finally got to try the Segway Personal Transporter at the Transport & Logistics show at the MOA SMX.  That was one cool riding experience.  Took me around a minute to get the hang of it; once you learn how to slowly get on the machine, the computer kicks in and you can feel its self-balancing abilities almost immediately.  This, as promised, is most certainly the future of short-distance transportation (radius of 5 kilometers).  Downside? The model I looked at was priced at some P450,000, which is pretty expensive any way you look at it.  I understand that Beijing-based Ninebot recently acquired Segway and is shipping much cheaper versions, starting at P170,000 (which is still quite steep).  As a comparison, the Divisoria stores are selling copycat hover-toys at just P9,000 (of course, you get what you pay for, and you can expect these machines to go kaput in a short period of time).
