La Taqueria Del Chupacabra

 

The lunch choice at the Podium Mall last Wednesday was either a repeat of Korean food or another visit to the Corner Market.  Since I had not explored the fast-food area of the mall, I elected to join my friend and we found ourselves having a burrito each at La Taqueria Del Chupacabra.  Now Chupacabras are mythical reptilian (or wolf-like, depending on where your tale originates from) creatures that are like goat vampires, and South American folklore has it that once in a while, they would turn their ire onto naughty children.  What a devilish thought!  I wonder what the stall owners were thinking of when they named the taqueria...

 

Pricing is pretty reasonable at less than P300 for a beef burrito, and the taste was good.  Service was quick, but then again, the food court didn't have much patrons because quarantine protocols are still in place.

We wanted to have dinner at the chicken shop beside the golf driving range along Julia Vargas Avenue, but it seems that the guard in charge of the queue wasn't cooperating at all with Monique.  The Callars and I didn't know that WW3 was close to erupting, and instead of patiently waiting for our turn, we loitered around and cluelessly decided to have a little snack at the next door taqueria Lo De Alberto.   For around P250 per head, the three of us had some tacos and enchiladas that would make most gringos switch from whiskey to tequila.  Definitely ranked among the top 5 Mexican eateries in the Metro.  The place can be packed like sardines on weekends, so make sure you get there before the mad rush.

Gringo

Spent some father and daughter bonding time with Monique at Gringo, a Tex-Mex restaurant along Palanca St. in Legaspi Village.  We were lucky to arrive there at around 5pm, just before the happy hour crowd would set in.  Chicken was soft and flavorful, while the burrito wasn't bad.  Prepare around P300 per person for a quick meal, but if you will stay for drinks, you have to cough up a bit more.

Monique and Callar kids couldn't resist having a quick bite at the Burrito Brothers store also along Lilac St.  We had just finished having cupcakes, and they were raring to try something new!  The usual suspects--nachos, burritos, and quesadillas!

Tonio managed to sneak in an order of ice-cream burrito despite everyone's statements that we had our fill.  Imagine our surprise when the dessert arrived!

Prices are cheap (average spend of say P150 per head) and the food is pretty acceptable.  The drawback is parking; they have just enough space good enough for maybe two to three vehicles to squeeze in.
