Mr. Kurosawa

Someone told me that the Sumo Sam group of restaurants is operated by the actor-turned-chef Marvin Agustin.  It seems that his favorite cuisine is Japanese, and this time Vicky and I chanced upon his Mr. Kurosawa restaurant at the Eastwood Mall.  The famed movie director (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Kagemusha and Ran, among others) is his inspiration for this restaurant, and scenes from the popular movies are pasted all over, even as ceiling decor (see picture below).

We were just waiting for Monique to finish shopping with her good friends, and the long wait made us both hungry.  We started off with uni sashimi, followed by some hot udon soup and beef teppanyaki.  I was pleased that they got my doneness order for medium rare just right, other establishments tend to serve medium well even if you specifically ask for medium rare.

The restaurant menu is Euro-Japanese, but I had to ask the waiter for the differentiation rationale vis-a-vis the menu of other sister restaurants (Sumo Sam, Akira, Banzai, John & Yoko).  I didn't see the much of the Euro in the menu.  Pricing is slightly on the high side; for the meal we ate, we spent approximately P650 per person.  Staff were very courteous and helpful though, and we had a pleasant dining experience.
