Modern Shanghai

We had a delightful time strolling around the new wing of the Glorietta.  Since the blast incident that lead to its partial closure (Kong and Gwammy were eating nearby at Mongkok when it happened), we have been wondering what the new look of the mall would be.  It has totally re-planned since, and the new layout is very good, although I think the aisles are a bit narrow, considering the volume of human traffic (probably intended to generate more revenue producing space).  One of the new additions to restaurant row is Modern Shanghai, run by the Bistro Group.

The place was pretty full when we got there, and we were lucky to get a table.  I felt like entering a typical Hong Kong restaurant--the waiters were all scurrying around, and all the staff seemed so anxious to feed you just so that the next round of customers could be seated.  We had some dumplings, siao long pao, 2 kinds of noodles soup (spicy pork and beef), string beans and the pricing isn't bad--we spent something like P350 per head.

The test of Shanghai restaurants would be the siao long pao, and unfortunately this time around, I didn't feel the rush of excitement as I chewed on their version.  Yes it was hot and filled with pork soup, but sorry to say this version just didn't have that zing to it; it was just like eating a siomai ball with some soup.  It seems to lack something, can't quite put my finger on it though...
