The new east wing of the Shangri-la Mall was an exciting destination for us to bring Angela and Kenny, it being one of the classy new malls to open in town. Since our tummies were looking for merienda, we decided to visit Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen, which turns out to be a franchise. The ramen was quite good--according to the lady, most ingredients are brought in from Japan, giving an authentic Japanese kick to the palate.
While the taste of the gyoza was superb, I thought that the size of the gyoza itself was bitin. I like dumplings that are stuffed to the brim, makes it inviting to eat; anemic dumplings with air pockets make me feel that the kitchen chef didn't want me to enjoy the food. We also had some sliced pork wrapped in lettuce, but I didn't see anything spectacular in it.
The ramen, however, was well worth the wait--the soup stock was well seasoned, the meats were tender, and the noodles slid perfectly around the chopsticks, and were wonderfully gooey at the core. I had the peppery version, and the soup almost appeared black from all the pepper! Yes, it was almost frighteningly spicy!
Our bill came to around P600 per head. Since we went in at around 3:30 pm, the crowd was just right, and the place was neither empty nor full (we were seated in just a couple of minutes). I like the blend of colors--the interior walls were bamboo-lined, and some shades of red came into contrast with lots of black and white.
