The mom of a college friend of mine recently celebrated her 80th birthday in Century Park Seafood Restaurant. This hotel used to be a Sheraton in the middle seventies, and is now self-run by the Lucio Tan Group. I haven't been to this hotel for several years now, and it seems that the interiors are well-maintained, although the style of the interior decor is a bit dated. We started off the feast with some cold cuts, which included pork asado, soy chicken, pork sausage and century eggs. This was immediately followed by prawn salad (topped with wasabe mayo) and shark's fin soup (yes, the soup was thick, smelled wonderful and was very delicious).
The seafood onslaught came in rapidly--abalone & sea cucumber, steamed lapu-lapu, and garlic crabs! Roasted pigeon was also served, and by the time we had the taro balls, our stomachs were already filled to the brim. This was a true old-fashioned Chinese lauriat banquet, dishes were served one at a time, and guests would have plenty of time for chit-chat in between dishes.
Desserts? Sweet mongo buns and mashed chestnut soup, served piping hot! The meal service time for this type of banquet takes something like 2 hours, and with each dish served, the plate is changed so that you can savor the taste of each new dish. I would guess that the average food check would come to something like P1,500 for a sumptuous meal like this.
