Barrio Fiesta

I had a lunch meeting last week at the Barrio Fiesta branch along Dela Rosa St. in Legaspi Village.  Way back in the seventies, Barrio Fiesta used to be the Filipino restaurant of choice when you had to entertain foreign visitors or balikbayans, but today, this branch seemed more like a casual eatery, seating just 50 people as compared to the large 400-seater restaurants the group used to operate (the one along Makati Avenue is still open to the public though).  The ornate Pinoy decor is still around, and the batibot chairs will remind you of the restaurant's old roots.  Run by the Ongpaucos since the late fifties, the restaurant is known to be the creator of crispy pata!

I had a quick combo meal for P161--lechon kawali and kare-kare, both long-time favorites of mine.  The kare-kare sauce is thick and still loaded with lots of peanut goodness, exactly the way I like it.  I understand that the group has already established branches abroad, the Barrio Fiesta Milpitas branch among them.  I was reading through their website and realized that the interior decor was re-created thousands of miles away!
