We all remember Casey Kasem (27 April 1932 - 15 June 2014), American disk jockey and music historian, as the man who co-founded and hosted American Top 40 for many many years. We used to listen to the weekly show just to find out what the best-selling record was. The show was the voice of Billboard Magazine. We loved the way he empathized with his fans, and the way he discussed interesting tidbits about the songs that made their way to the top. Few people know that he started as the disk jockey of the US Armed Forces in the Korean war but everyone who heard his voice knew it was him. Distinctive, quite soothing. His program shaped the tastes of several generations of listeners from the seventies through the nineties, and frankly, the way I appreciate music has partly been due to listening to his show. He will be missed.
