Monique and the Callars joined me in another episode of the Burger Hunt, and this time we spent the afternoon at Bite Club along Jose Abad Santos St. in San Juan. The place is at the leftmost end of the building where Country Chicken is also located, and while parking space is usually difficult to come by, we were quite lucky to find one with just a 2 minute wait. The burger house is pretty new in the area, I think even less than 6 months old. Someone told me that this burger joint used to be located in the Katipunan area, but even with the attractive flaming red logo, I never noticed their shop before.
The kids started off with some refreshing iced tea--literally, as this was just like slush. The french fries were almost as wide as potato wedges; flavorful yes, but each order wasn't as plentiful as we would have expected (I guess the chef had a strong background in portion control).
The burgers came wrapped in wax-lined Manila paper, and this helped prevent the grease and juices from running right through the wrapper. I thought it the simple packaging was a good touch, but a friend I know once commented that in the long run, this looked a bit dull. The wax-lined paper, however, makes it easy to hold and chew on the sandwich. The patties were char-grilled, and well seared, and the taste was just right. You can choose the sauce of your liking to mix and match--they have different flavors like BBQ, garlic and cheese. Overall, we spent around P250 per head, which is pretty reasonable for gourmet burgers.
