Alba's

Since the 1950s, Alba's has been the Spanish constant in Manila's restaurant scene.  Both my parents and Vicky's parents have patronized the chain since the beginning and it seemed such a part of our dine-out routine that when Andi was baptized, we decided to hold the reception at their Makati outlet (this is along Polaris St. in Bel-Air, off Makati Avenue).  Senyor Anastacio Alba has had several restaurants to his name (La Mancha, Jardin de Alba, La Parilla, Patio Flamenco, among others), and up to today, the flavor and food quality remains impressive.

We picked up some chorizo de bilbao and morcillas (blood sausages) for our New Year celebration in Ermita (around P1,000 per kilo), and found ourselves transported back to our memories of the restaurant's old world charm.  I was pleased to learn that they still have their buffet which is priced reasonably at less than P800 per head.  I was sad, however, to note that only 3 outlets remain--Makati, Tomas Morato and Alabang, but these seem to be in good physical and financial shape, so I guess I will still be seeing these restaurants for years to come.  That's comforting to hear, and as always, we say one big "Buen Provecho!"

Postscript:

Vicky's college gang decided to hold our 2017 Christmas get-together at Alba's and the food is still the best bang for the buck!
