The Buffet along Commonwealth Avenue opened early this year and I was pretty much intrigued as to how the former Nissan Showroom was converted into a restaurant. Not bad at all--the high ceiling gave a certain class to the atmosphere, and the table layout wasn't cramped at all. This was pretty interesting for us, since the restaurant opened with a promotional offer--P600 per head for weekday lunch, and P800 per head for weekday dinner and weekends. The staff made it a point to mention how their Korean chef took great pains to lay out a wide variety of dishes for the buffet spread--Western, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino food.
We asked Gwammy and Kong to join us with Ed and Korina for dinner, and most of the kids decided to tag along. It was good that we arrived before 7pm, and were immediately given a long table near the food. Several other big groups soon arrived, and I would say the place was around 70% full. The highlight for me was the elephant clams which was cooked in garlic butter--it was flavorful and mixed aroma of the sea and the garlic made my mouth water immediately. However, while the meat is tender, you can't eat too much--after four or five pieces, the gooey texture will make your jaw stiffen!
The kids loved the watermelon shake, the drinks and the desserts that came with the buffet. I had to go around trying small servings of several dishes, while I wanted to eat more, there simply was too much food variety to taste everything. After dinner, I was reminded by Kong that night time buffet dining was way too stressful for our respective diets, and the admonition came in--buffet style is best for lunch!
