We took Anita's family for a lazy Sunday lunch at the Spices restaurant at the Manila Peninsula. The blend of cuisines is something that Anita, Tony, Vicky and Monique savor, and it's a wonderful thing that the two little kids of Anita are beginning to enjoy the same.
We started off with some appetizers--a trio of samosa, crab cakes and roti. Kids' favorites. Gone in 60 seconds!
For the main meal, we had Asam Goreng (beef stew in tamarind sauce), biryani, lamb chops and chicken tandoori. The beef stew was awesome; I think I can eat this for weeks!
We made it a point to have noodle dishes--Char Kway Teow and Pad Thai. I don't recall which one was better liked by the kids, but I'm sure both plates were wiped clean. For dessert, we had some fried ice cream.
The restaurant has a comfortable feel, and it's as if the lanai atmosphere is an extension of your own house. We were seated right next to window overlooking the garden pond, and this was just perfect for chit-chat till around 3pm. Expect to spend something like P1,200 per head here, the variety goes on and on. We made it a point not to get Filipino dishes though, but I'm sure their take on local dishes are also excellent.
