The Maginhawa dining scene in Teacher's Village has truly evolved these past few years. Nanette's, which I thought was an institution, is no longer there. The restaurants that have come up serve the upmarket college crowd, and the endless stream of parked vehicles have made the place notorious as the traffic bottleneck of the area. Monique and I found an empty parking space in front of the Friuli Trattoria, and we decided to pop in to have a late lunch. I figure that the owner of the place is either from the Friuli district in Italy, or has lived there for some time.
We started with some mozarella sticks which was nicely deep fried and, as expected, gooey and chewy. The putanesca, however, was a bit bland, I had expected more zest and zing; the harlot's dish is always done wild, and should be eaten with eyes wide open!
The pizza wasn't bad, with the prosciutto slices, it had enough flavor to stand on its own. I would have wanted the crust to be crunchier around the edges though, but the slice was arguably stable in my hands. We spent something like P400 per head, and I think that your spending range can go from P250 per head to P600 per head, depending on how hungry you are. My only complaint was that the place only accepted cash, and didn't have a credit card swipe; to those like me who live on borrowed money, beware!
