Father's Day was up and we wanted to take the kids out to have a simple lunch. We decided to go to nearby Robinson's Place in Ermita, and Bryan made reservations at Uncle Cheffy, which was located at the ground floor of the complex, facing Adriatico St. Parking is available on the street, but it's tight, so the alternative is to park at the mall parking areas, but the trade-off is that you have to pass through a roundabout route just to get to the restaurant; there is no access from inside the mall.
Having eaten at their Eastwood branch several years ago, my impression of the restaurant was that they served purely panizza and baked meats. I was surprised that the branch at the Robinson's Place had a lot of Middle Eastern items on the menu, and that the restaurant had several hookah contraptions for shisha smokers.
Rather than having each person make their own orders, we decided to order family style and share viands. I chose a broad sampling of items on the menu so that each person would be able to try a variety of dishes.
We started off with steamed oysters, which to my surprise was served Filipino style--topped with chopped green mangoes and flavored with vinegar and ginger. Bryan asked for calamari, which was battered and fried crispy.
The baby back ribs were soft and flavorful, though slightly too sweet for my taste. We then had a surf & turf combination and chopped steak. The panizzas came in succession--four cheese (this was the kid's favorite), seafood, meat & pepperoni, and garlic. These were delivered hot, and the delightful aroma was a show-stopper! Our only comment--alfalfa was present, but the arugula has already been replaced with romaine lettuce. Somehow, panizza is more fun with arugula!
