We took the Marikina challenge and went out to sample the food spots in the area with the Callars. I haven't been in the area in ages, and it's pretty surprising to find out that a lot of quaint restaurants have mushroomed in the city by the river banks. Vicky took us to Cafe Lidia, which now stands on what was once a shoe factory. We got in around 1pm, and had to wait some 25 minutes for our table to be ready. That's how many customers were there on a holiday.
Food isn't bad, be ready with something like P400 per person and I'm sure you will have a good meal. For appetizers, we had a surf & turf combination of shrimps and beef salpicao, and thereafter the pizza started coming in (I liked the one with tuna and anchovies).
The kids were happy with pasta, chicken roulade and callos. It's a pity though that because we were a big group and the place was so full (people were still coming in at 2:30pm), we had to sit at three smaller separate tables, which greatly diminished the dining experience for the family.
Can you see Santa Claus all over the place? Christmas cheer was all around the restaurant. One other thing--the parking space across the street can accommodate maybe only around 12-15 vehicles, so try to be early in order to get a slot.
