Gatchalian Lechon
The King of the Munchies is none other than the Lechon. One whole pig, slowly roasted for 6 hours in an open pit of glowing charcoal. Crunchy skin. Tender meat. Flavorful. Awesome. My newest craving stems from the wonderful aroma of Gatchalian Lechon, located at the Guadalupe area along the south-bound side of EDSA. The lechon is cooked in the Ilonggo style, with plenty of lemongrass tucked inside the tummy for a unique aroma. A mid-sized lechon goes for around P8,000 which I can assure you it is well worth its weight in gold!
Cup Fiction
The White Plains area seems to be thriving on new-found culinary expertise. Monique took me for a dessert round at Cup Fiction, a newly opened restaurant near the Santolan corner. It's like a mini library cum coffee shop cum activity hall. I understand from the staff that the place is operated by the granddaughter of the late Pancho Magalona and her friends. Cozy lounge ambiance, you feel comfortable the moment you step in. We had chocolate cookies and peach waffles; a bit too sweet for me but it was good overall. The shelves were stacked with several good books; however, I felt the lighting was a bit dark, and I was thus wondering how Monique and her friends could use it as a regular study space. The place is quite popular with college kids and dating young adults; they are open till midnight, parking is available and prices are quite reasonable.
Pokari Sweat
The name of the drink used to be butt of several cruel jokes--I mean who in his right mind would want to drink something called Sweat? For a lot of gym goers, Pocari Sweat was a far third choice behind Gatorade and Powerade. But recently I've come to appreciate the drink. Last week I caught a terrible cold; my nose was severely clogged and I could hardly breathe. I was breathing through my mouth, and the repeated breathing had caused my mouth to turn dry. I was also thirsty. By some quirk of fate, the only refreshment available in the my friend's refrigerator was Pocari Sweat. It was cold and I immediately accepted the enticing offer. To my astonishment, not only did my thirst disappear, but my nose started to clear up! For around an hour or two, I was breathing normally again. I have no idea why it worked well, but it did. How's that for a product testimonial?
Trapa
This is something that I almost can't forgive myself--I left a bar of Trapa Supremo chocolates in the refrigerator for more than 4 years, way past the product's expiry date. How could I have forgotten it all these years? Doesn't matter; we ate the bar and it still tastes good, albeit a bit hard and crumbly. Next time, I'll finish the stuff as soon as I bring it home!
Mongolian Barbecue

I remember the zany antics of Mr. Shooli of Mongolian Barbecue. It was such an interesting talk show to watch. I loved the wit of the dialogue and the wealth of socio-political comment that came along with it. Jun Urbano, who played the character, is a well-respected ad executive with numerous TV commercials to his credit. Splendid comedy! How I wish I could see the show back on the air.

Hukad
Had a quick meeting with fellow real estate brokers at Hukad, a Cebuano restaurant at the Trinoma Complex. The restaurant is part of the Golden Cowrie group, which has a rich history as a prime mover of the Cebuano dining scene. We started off with some baked scallops and shrimp sinigang soup which had a real asim kick.
The pork liempo didn't make too much of an impression on me, but the ngohiong (shown below) was something different. Unlike the Chinese 5 spice meat roll, their version is vegetarian treat. We didn't order the belly lechon, that one looks like something I'd get for a special occasion. Expect to spend something like P400 per person for a meal. The place is a crowd favorite, so you could have waiting queues especially on weekends.
