I had a meeting at the Gateway Center early this week, and I stopped by the Taco Bell store at the fast food area to have a quick bite. I remember that Taco Bell first entered the local market in the late seventies (they had a store in Greenhills), but that franchisee wasn't able to grow the business properly. After several years, the brand made a comeback (probably with a different franchisee), but I think that growth over the past decade has been practically non-existent; there are only 3 stores, 2 in Cubao and another in the Trinoma area. The burrito I got was priced at P89 and wasn't much of an experience; it was a mere fast-food burrito, and I felt that it had no Mexican touch at all. Too bad, really; this was in stark contrast to how the brand was portrayed in the futuristic Sylvester Stallone movie Demolition Man, in which Taco Bell was the named as the dominant fast food brand that survived corporate competition in the 21st century.
